Simplifying donations to empower local communities

CHALLENGE

In the midst of one of Spain’s deepest economic crises, with record unemployment and a mass exodus of young talent, we asked ourselves a simple question: Would people be more generous if we made it easier to help?

SOLUTION

We created BeneBene, a mobile app for iOS and Android that directly connects people who want to donate with local humanitarian organizations. The platform allows users to give away items they no longer need, like food, clothes, toys, furniture, or services, in a structured, intuitive way that brings together benefactors and beneficiaries.

RESULTS

In the first few months after launch, Benebene attracted over 2,000 users who published more than 500 donation listings. The platform quickly gained the trust of the local community, with 25 NGOs and humanitarian organizations in Madrid registering to receive and distribute donations. That same year, Benebene was awarded the People’s Choice Award at The App Date Awards 2015, which recognizes the best digital solutions of the year.
